TWO BIRDS HAVE LANDED IN OXFORD STORE AND ARE

"POPPING UP" IN ELLIE SANDERSON BEACONSFIELD

We cannot contain our excitement! - or rather Nicola, Julia and the Oxford girls are in meltdown at the arrival of our new Bridesmaid Dress Collection

To be honest, I am bored with all bridesmaids trying to look the same in identical dresses and stopped selling them many years ago and, despite weekly requests for them, have point blank refused to sell boring old bridesmaids dresses in my shops.

Until NOW! Now, I have totally fallen in love with this amazing concept and collection of dresses.

ABSOLUTELY NO BRIDESMAID IN MY SHOPS??

These dresses are all British made which ticks a huge patriotic box for me and on a practical front there are no 6 month lead times and risks of non delivery.
They come in two sizes only and yes they really do fit, from size 6 up to size 22 and they are so so flattering, trust me we have tried them on and we know.
Their unique style with 15 ways to wear them mean that your bridesmaids can all wear the same dress but style it differently and still all look great together.
Girls with big boobs, girls with no boobs, girls with a tummy, girls with no tummy, tall girls, short girls, broad girls,athletic girls,slender ,petite girls will ALL suit these amazingly versatile dresses - trust me once again as we have checked them out for boob spill, belly bumps the lot!
They come in 19 amazing colours - yes 19, now we do have our own favourites which you will see when you visit but they are all current and not a peach blancmange in sight !
Because you can vary the lengths you don't have fitting costs - let me say that again, you don't have fitting costs. The one thing that used to make me crazy when I last sold bridesmaids was that the gown could cost £180 then your gorgeous maids all starved themselves and lost loads of weight resulting in costly alterations - with these that wont happen!
Girls with big boobies fear not as we also sell bandeau supports that match the dress to wear under it, they really have thought of it all. Trust me we have checked this too.
You can have some of your bridesmaids with shoulders, some with halter necks some strapless and others with one shouldered and all with the same dress in the same colour. SIMPLES!

Ellie Sanderson Beaconsfield and Oxford were voted the UK's top Bridal Shops by Wedding Ideas Magazine 2012. Mr B (hubby) and I attended a very glamorous party in the City of London on Friday the 13th ( lucky for some !) at the swanky Brewery. The event was sponsored by Hitched.co.uk and was attended by more than 400 of the industry's greats and it was quite a night, let me tell you!
We were entertained by the very, very funny comedian Rob Deering , enjoyed some extremely yummy food and washed it all down with vodka from the Giraffe-shaped Luge!

Ellie Sanderson had already been shortlisted by Wedding Ideas Magazine out of hundreds of entrants and was announced winner in the ceremony which was filmed and beamed out live on the Wedding Ideas Website.
I have to say that I was somewhat stuck for words when I was invited to the stage to collect our third National Award for Excellence in as many years.

It really does seem surreal. Of course I think my shops are full of the best dresses in the UK and am very proud that most are hand-made in the UK. I have two stunning locations and both shops are utterly gorgeous. I also have an amazing mix of staff covering all ages and backgrounds but all have one thing in common - they totally love what they do !
So to have this wonderfulness endorsed by the Industry and our Brides has really made our year!

So a massive thanks, not only to all the girls, but to all the brides who voted for us.

So it's probably time for me to admit to having a very tiny huge bit of an enormous crush on the Designer Suzanne Neville - not in any inappropriate way but in a total awe and admiration kinda way. Her dresses are quite simply splendid and are all hand crafted using the finest techniques of contemporary couture. Suzanne is the choice of celebrities world wide, She is famous for her beautifully constructed wedding dresses and evening gowns, complete with their signature highly-structured bodices. From bias cut to full romantic shapes using only the finest silks and hand embroidered details - I often say "Try one and be prepared to fall in love!"

What a year 2011 was for

ELLIE SANDERSON BRIDAL BOUTIQUES.

We were crowned the best Bridal Retailer in the UK at The British Bridal Buyers Awards .This is a trade recognised award for excellence in customer service, product proposition, shop standards and recognition for the commercial stability of our business and ..... because we are pretty damn fabulous! This is the second year the BBA have recognised our boutiques with an award.

Also, we have been short-listed for an award by Wedding Ideas Magazine -
Five of us across the UK have been short-listed by the readers as the Best Bridal Retailers in the UK. The winner will be announced in January 2012.

And, as if that's not enough, we were announced as winner for London and The South East of England by the Wedding Industry Awards and boy, oh boy, that is a massive accolade. This award is voted for by past clients, dress designers, The UK's top wedding planners, finance specialists and pretty much all wedding experts out there have assessed us. The winner will be announced in January 2012.

I am now, as I was five years ago, still totally dedicated and ever so slightly obsessive about all the details which surround our service to you. I was totally honoured last week to be invited to the trendy Bluebird Cafe and Restaurant in the Kings Road, London to celebrate the legendary SASSI HOLFORDS 30 years of making wedding dresses.

Sassi and Martin threw the most fabulous bash with all sorts of world famous wedding folk, from planners to fellow designers like Stewart Parvin, Ritva Westenius and Stephanie Allin.

Sassi Holford held the most fabulous, glitzy but unpretentious party to celebrate her 30 years. We were spoiled with chilled bubbly and gorgeous canapés whilst watching some of the most stunning wedding dress models strut around showing us all why SASSI HOLFORD is one of the greatest. Personally I was in Heaven.

Sassi Holford's 30 Years of making designer wedding dresses started when she made a wedding dress for a girl at school. It was created in inexpensive fabric but looked fabulous ....and that was the start. The rest, as they say, is history.

Sassi Holford is now famous for making dresses for celebrities, and royals alike and even little old ME! She really does understand the meaning of simply beautiful wedding dresses with a definite 'less is more' style.

Sassi Holford creates gowns which are timeless, gorgeous, and simply fabulous.

Here's to wishing her a Huge Happy Thirty Years' Celebration.

Okay, its time to spill the beans on the new designer in our Oxford Store.
I have contained my excitement for four months now; kept it well and truly under wraps but have been busy, busy, busy preparing.

We have commissioned new dress rails and created a specially designed vintage area.
We are having Staff Training days studying the cut and fit of the gowns.
We have lots of new and gorgeous new pictures being loaded onto the website next week.
And, we have even had 12 gorgeous and luxurious new hangers made for these glorious gowns.

P.A.R.T.Y. To Celebrate Ellie Sanderson best Bridal Retailer award

What a night we had last Tuesday, a few select suppliers, lots of industry experts, some gorgeous past brides, some brides- to- be and some local businesses were invited to a Party at ELLIE SANDERSON, Oxford. Well we did have two very good reasons! ELLIE SANDERSON was announced by The British Bridal Buyer to be the UK's Best Bridal Retailer and it was a double celebration as Oxford store also turned one year old!

Our guests arrived at 6pm and by 7pm we were spilling onto the street, the place was jumping and read like a Wedding Who's Who.

IN THE DRESS CORNER

We had SASSI HOLFORD and her gorgeous husband Martin, and Alan and Marguerite Hannah. We had Tantrums and Tiaras along with Tania, owner of Magpie Vintage in the all things Sparkly Corner. We had the wonderful Tamryn Kirby, Julie Tooby, Sarah Ducker, Ruby Weddings to take care of all things planning related.

IN THE FOOD CORNER

We had Max of Big Bang Max providing us with this wonderful and ethically sourced British Sausage and Mash in great little boxes, and of course , his very own special entertainment! We had Sam from What a Fab Party who made some gorgeous nibbles and kept the alcohol flowing all night long (we all blame her!)
IN THE GLAMOUR CORNER

We also had some terrific and glamorous make up chicks, Kaz Fernando and Joyce from Brides and Beauty.

Topped off with Tara owner of award winning Chocolate Blush who supplied me with my very own box of hand made Cinnamon truffles mmmmmmmmmm Then there was Hester owner of Sweet Tier Cakes, she made our most gorgeous first Birthday cake which was scoffed in seconds - a true talent. Her wedding cakes are to die for.
I also want to thank Gary and Matthew from FABULOUS FLOWERS, they are an amazing and talented double act who serve brides the county over and keep our amazing shop decked out with the most stylish flowers I have ever seen - true, true talent and thankyou for your inspiration.

Last but not least was David Bostock - THE BRIDAL PHOTOGRAPHER, THE HUSBAND AND ALL ROUND GOOD EGG!! He was there to keep me calm and make sure I drank champagne then water then champagne then water and of course his assistant Lindy Cummings took all the amazing photos!

The whole point of the night was to celebrate Oxford being one year old and of course to celebrate winning the amazing accolade of the UK's Best Bridal Retailer -it was so much fun being surrounded by such amazing wedding world talent.

The unsung and massively supporting heroes are as always forgotten but I want to say thanks To Roy Fabry, my HSBC bank manager and great guy.He has now left me :-( to travel the world instead, however I welcome the lovely Neil in his place, as did most of the girls!!. Then there is Jane the ever patient bookkeeper who came to party to make sure I had collected all receipts for the monies spent - love her.

I also want to mention my wonderful team of girls, Nicola, manager of Oxford, Laura, Manager of Beaconsfield, Miss Bea, Eira, Diane, Julia, Georgina, Sam, Emma - you are all truly truly appreciated and your passion and support for me is unbending - thank you.

As for Gill and Beverly - without these wonderful ladies who alter our gowns I would be deeply sad. They are amazing and would work until midnight and beyond if needed- and often do- I love you both.

Last but not least a big thanks to my big brother John and my mummy. I don't often get too personal on my business blog but them being with me on the night meant the world. Its been a tough week for all three of us as it was also the anniversary of my dad's passing - we know he was with us in spirit.

wowee wowee, just found this amazing picture of the Royal Wedding Cake. How truly stunning is this cake? It looks elegant and it so easily could have looked huge and scary. I want one.

However let us not forgot that this was the official cake and Prince William had his very own cake made by Mc Vities. A Chocolate and Rich Tea biscuit cake covered in white chocolate, with white chocolate flowers.

Now I am thinking that Prince William may have just set a trend for our grooms to want their very own cake !

How lucky are Prince William and Miss Catherine Middleton, they are having not one but two wedding cakes. They have chosen Leicestershire-based cake designer Fiona Cairns to create their wedding cake, Fiona Cairns without doubt will be feeling the pressure but I am certain this modern young couple will be really clear on what they want. Fiona makes gorgeous luxury wedding cakes and yes she is totally British!! woo hoo .

In addition, the couple have also asked McVitie's Cake Company to create a chocolate biscuit cake for the reception at Buckingham Palace. The chocolate biscuit cake will be made from a Royal Family recipe and was specially requested by Prince William. I bet its a giant Jaffa cake ! how blinking fabulous would that be ??

As always on our travels at wedding Fayres we meet some amazing and talented people, recently we met Sweet Tiers Cakes which is owned and run by Hester Gardner, they specialise in Bespoke Romantic style Wedding Cakes.

Hester is so passionate about the quality of her cakes and I have huge admiration not only for the wonderful styles but for her passion to make at all her sponge cakes lovingly at home in her special cake kitchen, using the finest ingredients. Hester insists " We always use real butter, locally sourced free range eggs and fair-trade products whenever possible. Our cakes when iced are a minimum of 4inches high and come in sumptuous flavours such as Lemon sponge cake layered with lemon curd and vanilla buttercream, Chocolate cake infused with Baileys and layered with Bailey’s buttercream and Spiced Carrot and Hazelnut cake layered with orange buttercream."

Hester is a self taught cake designer who finds inspiration through all aspects of weddings, from beautiful wedding gowns by designers such as Stephanie Allin and Sassi Holford, to wedding flowers, jewellery and venue decoration. The designs capture the essence of your wedding day with a mixture of romance, elegance and often with a country garden feel. All of the sugarflower and decorations are handmade and coloured by Hester, this way the sugarflowers can be colour matched exactly to your bouquet, should you wish.

The funny thing is that I am not a cake eating girl but I managed to eat six slices last week when Hester came to one of our Accessory parties, so light and just gorgeous. Wowee, what a day was had by all the girls who came to meet Marguerite Hannah at Ellie Sanderson Oxford.

We had such fun playing in all the stunning dresses and so many girls found their dream dress ! just brilliant news.

You can of course relax now and know you are in great hands, we were after all voted the UKs Best Bridal Retailer.

Time for you to go out and celebrate choosing your gorgeous dress and time for us to smile and put our feet up - you were all brilliant and made a terrific atmosphere in the shop today.

Yes, that's right !

Suzanne Neville herself will be here in Beaconsfield with her fabulous dresses.Can you believe it ?

So, now is a good time for me to share with you my little secret about an amazing Suzanne Neville dress. About two years ago, I visited Suzanne Neville in Knightsbridge - this was way before she supplied us with dresses. I tried on a dress called 'Red Messina' and was so very tempted to have it as my wedding dress; I LOVED it. I did, however, decide that it didn't work with my venue and that also it might scare my 84 year old mother in law !

With hindsight , I know I made the right decision and I went on to have a most glorious Sassi Holford Lace dress made for me by the Maestro.

However, 'Red Messina' lived on in my mind and I simply could not get it out of my head. Suzanne knows that I adore this stunning dress and she knows it haunts me still. So it was no surprise to her when I sent her a message last night to say " Right, I am coming to get it" I really am, I am going to buy it for the Bridal Buyers' Awards Dinner on March 13th when we are in the finals for BEST BRITISH BRIDAL RETAILER 2011.

So, back to the point. These dresses really do steal your heart.

I have seen grown women weep when they put them on. Suzanne's corsets are legendary and simply make you a size smaller - what more could you want??

She will be with us on the 5th of February in Beaconsfield with her 2011 collection of stunning dresses and I am so very excited. I would love to keep the appointments to myself and just play in her dresses....come on, it IS my shop so why not? My team, however, have told me this is a huge selfish act and that I must give a few up to the public !!

To that end, there are only three appointments available to meet this goddess Suzanne Neville on the 5th of February . If you have seen or love and just need to try her gowns give us a call. Be warned - if you try them you will want one. Look at me, still broken after two years.

p.s A happy piccy of me on my holidays.( bit of a windy day for my hair though!)

What a hoot, I have just checked last month's stats for visits to the blog and thought I would share some of it, it is really funny and tells me a lot about the brides that visit our site.

65% of visits are between 12.30 - 1.30pm , so that will be lunchtime then or just before when hunger and boredom are setting in !

35% of you girlies visit us on a Monday morning - feeling blue, not wanting to work but rather to keep thinking wedding thoughts. I so hope the boss doesn't catch you.

Most of you read all about Suzanne Shaw's Wedding Dress!! Even one and a half years later..

(She got married in a SASSI HOLFORD, just in case you can't find the entry!)

We have had over 200 visits a day for 5 minutes each, almost 17 hours of reading my gossip daily, hopefully in your lunch break.

Finally a whopping 35% visit about three times a week.

My God, I am flattered and I am horrified as I am often told off for spelling mistakes by Miss Bea ( I had no idea so many people read my blog) must try harder.

The National Wedding Show - Olympia

What better way to show off our stunning dresses than having them paraded four times a day at the National Wedding Show?

We are proudly sponsoring a catwalk scene at The National Wedding Show .

However, I am going into complete meltdown trying to decide which lovely dresses to take with me. How can I choose just six dresses out of 140 stunners by the world's best designers ?!!

Having just typed that, I realise just how lucky I am to work with such industry greats like Sassi Holford (who made my gorgeous dress and coat when I got married just over a year ago).Then also,there is Suzanne Neville and Kate Sherford, Lusan Mandongus and Alan Hannah and, of course, the wonderful Stephanie Allin.

I watch girls go into total meltdown choosing one fabulous dress let alone six!

So, Lovely Laura - Manager of Beaconsfield and Nic Sparkle, Manager of Oxford will be sitting me down next week to force a final decision.

Mmm,there are a few definites I think!?? (more indecision?)

Yvette by Sassi Holford makes my heart race and Grace by Kate Sherford is just divine.

Yaaaahhhh, How excited are we?
Today Ellie Sanderson was announced as a finalist for the BEST BRIDAL RETAILER in the UK. Out of the hundreds of shops across the UK they chose just seven finalists and we are one of them !! Brilliant news.
Last year Ellie Sanderson won the best shop display and standards for the whole of the UK and now this.
At Ellie Sanderson we are totally driven by customer service; we only stock the best designers in the world and we all totally love our work. Both of our stores are sumptuous and full of glorious dresses and stunning accessories. We are also passionate about the finer details in all that we do.
So watch this space to see if we win.There are some other fantastic shops in the final and we are so proud to have been included in the shortlist of finalists.
Of course the next important thing for us is to get ready for our big night at the Bridal Oscars in March. Laura, Nicola,Barbara and I will all be heading up to Harrogate for the red carpet event.
So the diets start Monday, the shopping for our dresses start Tuesday.....

Wedding Fever at Ellie Sanderson

Is it me or is Britain gripped with Wedding Fever?
Is this all down to Kate or rather Catherine and William?? I think so.
On Christmas day my sister-in-law texted me to say that her handsome son had just got engaged to a very gorgeous young lady (she will be a stunning bride). I smiled and felt huge excitement for them both. I then imagined all the nervous men around the globe who were planning to pop the BIG question on Christmas Day. I have to say that, if the last week at ELLIE SANDERSON is any measure, then there were a lot of proposals at Christmas - well done Britain !
We all love a fairly tale, we all love a happy ending and I sense a return to romance as Britain is consumed with Wedding Fever and I can feel the excitement building for April already. Road closure plans, hiring of hairdressers, famous make up artists, hand made shoes and, of course, the 'Bridal Gown of the Century' ! No ordinary plans but I do hope that William and Kate manage to make this "their" special day amidst all the "Pomp and Circumstance ".
And pleeeeeeeeeeeeeassssssssssssseeee will someone tell us who is making the dress; the suspense is killing me.
Is it Bruce Oldfield? Philippa Lepley ? Ben Di Lisi? Stop the rumours NOW and spill the beans because I simply cannot wait until April.
Anyway, back to wedding fever. I am both thrilled and scared to say that we are now almost fully booked in both stores for Saturdays in January so we have decided to open on Sundays as well.

We have a wonderful stand with our own fitting room AND we will be showing off our wonderful collection of gowns on the catwalk four times a day!

TOP TIP, SASSI HOLFORD WILL MAKE THE DRESS OF THE CENTURY

Ok, its not often I lay awake due to over excitement, and I am honest enough to admit the reason for this is Kate and William. I am sure that will make you laugh but so what!
I have been thinking non stop about KATE MIDDLETONS WEDDING DRESS, well its what I do and to be frank I have it already mapped out in my mind.
I can see her now, her stunning figure, her tall willowy frame and perfect posture her gorgeous fresh and excited face. She will be amazing and it will go down in history forever.

I feel without question this gown has to be the best of British, it has to be quintessentially English and it has to ooze timelessness and class and it cannot be creased when she gets out the carriage, Princess Diana's creases still haunt us all.

The problem is they are so gorgeous that we bought the entire collection. I always say that Kate's style is fresh and young but what do I mean?

Well her gowns are innovative, fun and for girls who want to look a bit different to the crowd on their big day. Forget dull, strapless ruched gowns made in China or America.
These are lovingly hand made in Taunton, Somerset. They are made in the most individual of fabrics, silks, stunning laces with gorgeous little pearl buttons on the back, truly scrumptious. But don't take Ellie Sanderson's word for it, come and have a look for yourself.

Today my very talented husband David, The Bridal Photographer showed me this photograph and I cried.

I love all of his work and he has won lots of awards so I am not biased but when I looked at this shot I melted. Its magic.

I am not technically minded but I know when the lighting is spot on, the moment is grabbed and you can just feel this little gorgeous darling swinging her pretty pink bag as she marched up the stairs feeling like a fairy princess - and she looked every inch a princess,

Davids style is very much reportage and totally unstaged and that allows him to capture these moments. He has the most magical shots of grooms leaning in to steal a kiss from their bride when no one is looking (!), or a grooms hand lovingly placed in the small of his brides back. I do feel that these moments are just so so special and moving and when caught on film can portray all the love and happines that a wedding day holds.

Saving money- Groomsmen

Last night I was talking to my lovely other half about who he would want at his side on our wedding day. Like most men he then rattles off a load of names... the guys from the football team, the band, family, friends from college and work, the list kept growing! as the non engaged bridezilla I already have a budget in mind for my wedding, but one thing I forgot to budget for were the groomsmen!

Ian carried on with... and Bob will be my best man, Frank, Bill, John, Ted, Bert will be the ushers and Oscar, Oliver and James the page boys (I have changed the names as do want to keep some of my wedding a surprise!)

Ladies this was quite unexpected I almost spat out some of my wine as he was talking, I never quite imagined he wanted all of this but, because he is the loving man he is (reason why I'm with him!) he doesn't want to leave anyone out or hurt anyone's feelings! Whereas all I'm thinking about is who we can cut back on to ensure that I have the money for my dream dress.

So here are my money saving tips,

You must limit the ushers, its great if you win the lottery to have them all but if Ian has his way he would have about 20! So here whats on my mind - are lots of ushers really needed?? it is great to have someone 'ushering' people to their seats and helping the day run smoothly. If you are having a small boutique wedding you could ask friends to help and give out some key tasks so that they can ensure all happens when it should.
If you do decide your wedding is such a size that ushers are a must then the great news is you could ask them to wear their own lounge suit in black or grey. This will still look smart with a simple flower corsage and will save you an average of £100 per Usher in not hiring suits.
You can also get the ushers to wear a cream shirt and supply the tie to match the bridesmaids, again another great way to save some cash. To be honest most blokes would prefer a lounge suit to being trussed up in something formal that doesn`t quite fit.

So my 20 Ushers are now 2 Friends saving me lots of money. Well that's my stunning veil, fabulous shoes, and vintage inspired jewellery covered, with enough change for a few cheeky cocktails to celebrate saving money! I know this sounds a little mercenary but I can promise you it does run away with you if you are not keeping it in check!

Page boys are another unexpected expense- But how cute is a little man in a suit! again keep an eye on numbers, too many page boys and it becomes more like a 5 aside than a wedding! they will probably never wear it again. I would suggest looking on the high street like BHS or John Lewis where you can pick an outfit up for around £30 each and they look just as wonderful.

So my overall feeling is that ushers can become expensive. Be wise and shop on the high st during sale and don't be afraid to ask your male friends to wear their own fabulous suits and shirts.

The groom of course can have anything he wants, well within reason.. my dress must come 1st!

We are often asked what we do with all of our fabulous sample gowns when all the new gowns come in for the next season -

Well, I will let you in to a wee secret, we sell them off. In fact we don't just sell them off, we clean them until they are as near perfect as possible, repair any loose buttons or stitches, and then we SELL THEM WITH UP TO 70% OFF.

I know it sounds too good to be true but it is true. The fact of the matter is that I buy over 60 new gowns a season and I have to sell at least the same off to create the space for these new gowns.

When I hear you scream, I want one, me me me - well its the 13th of November in our Oxford store, cancel all your plans, gather your girls and book your ticket!

How to save money

My goodness we discuss saving money and budgets as much as weight in our fitting rooms and so I decided to do a few tips together every week till Christmas to help our spring brides. These are gathered from the hundreds of girls who visit us.
This week we will talk about Bridesmaids, FIRST TIP - limit your bridesmaid numbers

I know how this happens, its either one friend or five. Or picture this, you have your new shiny diamond, everyone is excited for you, you have lots of champagne then you wake up the next day with six bridesmaids!! you have been warned, I should know the last one happened to me!!
I don't wish to spoil the fun here but it is your day and and you must not compromise on what you want just to have an extra bridesmaid.

So,if you find yourself with four and two little flower girls and my advise of limiting numbers reaches you a little too late lets go for damage limitation.

The average adult bridesmaid will cost you £250 to dress, buy shoes for, supply a bouquet and of course presents and hair and make up. Four = £1000!!!

THE DRESSES

My advice here is to head for the high street or better still Bicester village. You will be able to find lovely dresses for at least £60 and if you go for full length the girls can wear their own glamorous shoes saving more cash. Karen Millen, Monsoon, Coast and Oasis sales are brilliant for picking up fabulous dresses. Check out ASOS too, remember they don't have to be formal just really lovely and pretty.
If that is even too much go for black, all girls have a LBD in their wardrobe and black is stunning next to ivory with ivory flowers. Quite contemporary and edgy too. Match with vintage jewels to create a really stunning look for your girls. Very SATC!

This will save you at least £400 on dresses if you manage to buy dresses at £60 a girl.

FLOWERS

Opt for a vintage wrist corsage of a simple rose on an organza ribbon, these are about £12 each as opposed to £50 for a bouquet, it also makes sense leaving your bridesmaids free to help you with your gorgeous gown!

This will save you at least £150 if you opt for wrist corsages instead of bouquets.

PRESENTS

opt for a gift that your bridesmaids will love and can wear on the day, a stunning necklace as a gift will save buying them accessories. They also get to keep a lovely piece that they wore on your very special day.

This could save you £40 a bridesmaid = £160

FLOWER GIRLS

two places to buy, either John Lewis at £65 a flower girl dress or BHS at £40. These pretty little dresses can be made to match the bridesmaid with a simple coloured ribbon sash. Your lovely little darlings will only wear them once and they will be wrecked by the end of the day. Be sensible here, it is so easy to get emotional with this one but be realistic.
You could tie ribbons round a little basket full of confetti petals for them to carry instead of flowers, this would also save you lots of money and look just as gorgeous.

This could save you £60 a flower girl = £120

these are all little savings that add up to over £800 and will surely come in very useful.

TWO WORDS!! - KATE SHERFORD

KATE SHERFORD, what can I say? first of all a huge thanks to Kate for sending her 2011 collection of gowns to Beaconsfield for us to play with, secondly a huge thanks to Kate for driving up from KATE SHERFORD HQ in Taunton to help so many girls find the dress of a life time.

We had brilliant fun at Kate's designer day in Beaconsfield. We are blessed in that our designers love to come and meet their brides. This helps them with inspiration for new gowns and of course they get spade loads of feedback on likes and dislikes about the current collection and even better still - you get the chance to meet a real live designer!! and isn't Kate just so lovely and normal, it easy to see why we have her in both stores now - she is fabulous.

She also has an amazing team of girls back in Taunton HQ who help her deliver her stunning creations. Miss Charlotte is Kates calm no.2 who makes sure everything arrives in time and is spot on accurate and for her attention to detail we have her on our favourite list. They are all avid Chocoholics and have been known to scoff a the biggest box of Hotel Chocolat choccies at a few sittings! :-)

Can you tell we love Kate Sherford?

This is not just because her gowns are amazing, its not just because she is fabby, its not even because her gowns are made in Britain - or that she buys the most amazing fabrics to make them in, for me its simple. I really think she is the one to watch, she will be winning awards for her new, fresh and different dresses, MARK MY WORDS, and next years collection takes her to new heights, it is totally different to anything else on the market.

So many girls found the dress of their dreams on Saturday and if you are reading this, a huge huge congratulations from us all. It was great fun even if it got a bit panicky with a small queue forming at around 4pm as everyone came back from the pub and decided to GO FOR IT!!!

Signature scent

Have you got your signature scent??

If not why not??

Thats what an Ellie Sanderson bride said that to me last year about a month before my wedding and I have to say its quite odd that my response was no. I am a bit of a candle burner and love scents. I could tell you the perfume I was wearing the night I met my husband, I know what candles I burn every Christmas and I don't allow myself to start burning them till December as the smell tells me Christmas is coming. So smell, scents etc are high on my agenda.

So, why had I not thought about my signature scent for my wedding day? I mean, I am Ellie Sanderson and my world is weddings. As soon as I finished beating myself up for missing such an obvious part of my planning I got on with the job straight away.

It was simple - I headed to London and Jo Malone, I chose Lime Basil for the ceremony, uplifting and fresh, I invested in over 20 candles (husband didn't and still doesn't know how much they cost, lets hope he never buys me one or it may be the last gift I get!) I knew the minute those doors opened and I walked in to marry my David I would feel welcomed not only by his smiling face but also by my comforting and gorgeous smelling candles.

I decided on Mont Blanc, the perfume I wore the night I met David, and he remembered. mwaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! I felt my wedding was now complete with its very own smell, god I hope men don`t read this blog!

You can therefore imagine my excitement when one of our designers decided to launch a perfume, a body lotion and candles -I went into meltdown... all matching and captured in your head forever. SIGNATURE SCENT CITY!!!

Suzanne Neville is the leading lady responsible for this fabulous new collection of wedding scents. Its always hard to capture the essence of a scent but it is so perfect for a wedding day, subtle, feminine, floral without being sickly - just fabulous.

The Designer Wedding Show

Oooohhhh I love the Designer Wedding Show, Sassi Holford, Stephanie Allin and many others graced the catwalk in Battersea this weekend.

As always I was super excited to see the line up of next years key looks all under one roof. The gowns were in stunning vintage beaded lace, gorgeous fitted silhouettes are still key and of course the softest of tulle and organza in full and very dramatic skirts. Also the strap is back with a vengeance, low cut backs and nipped in waists all strutted on the cat walk.

Sassi showed off her famous skills opening the show with the most stunning lace gown with the softest little cap sleeves, of course this amazing gown had the famous SASSI HOLFORD corsets under its soft layers. It was quite breathe taking.

Magpie Vintage were also there with some really amazing one off pieces. The little Magpies have been hard at making some lovely pieces to match the fabulous vintage gowns of the season.

I also fell in love with Nikki McFarlane bridesmaids dresses, they really are the most lovely old English styles that I have ever seen.

So as the new season starts for all our next year brides I have a few words of wisdom.

I really mean Suzanne Neville at Ellie Sanderson, she really is coming and she is bringing her 2011 collection of dresses. I know these days are for future brides to come and see her gowns and meet this amazing lady but I am half tempted to keep the appointments all to myself so that she can dress me in all her gowns and become my new best friend.

I adore her dresses, I have been in love with one of them for three years but have no occasion to buy it for. YET!

Suzanne is renowned for her amazing corsets, they give you the figure of a goddess and I am NOT joking. They are stunning to look at and you just want to jump up and down wearing them and kiss her for making you look so damn skinny. Love her and her dresses.

Ellie Sanderson has the answer, we found this fabulous little company that hand makes these stunning light as feather capes, its translucent, open, softly veiling the dress and bride beneath.

The ripple stitch detail draws the eye at the front and creates the elegant flattering shape which falls over the bride's shoulders and sits just below the bust. It's a great shape for almost all figure types.

Its knitted in a soft and dreamy natural brushed mohair to warm the bride in the evening or imagine your arrival at church whilst wearing this ?? awesome.

Its not a secret that I spend my whole life talking not only about wedding gowns and accessories but about Wedding Photography. Some of you will know that I am married to David Bostock the Bridal Photographer, which probably explains my little fetish. I just love beautifully captured wedding pictures, they are your treasures for life and this week my extremely clever and totally talented husband scooped a fabulous award for the above photograph.

He was awarded the best international photograph of a bride and groom from a distance!! So to say that I am bursting with pride is mild, add to this the fact that bride he photographed was one of my girls in a stunning gown, veil, shoes and accessories all supllied by Ellie Sanderson and you can feel my excitement. David took this amazing photograph of Anna and Richard at Le Manoir Aux Quat` Saisons, what a place and I feel this picture does them all proud. David aka The bridal photographer has shot many weddings at Le Manior Aux Quat` Saisons, infact he almost lived there this summer (lucky guy)

Gorgeous Rachel

We had the honor of serving the lovely Rachel with her glorious Kate Sherford Wedding Dress.

Rachel called us over a year before her wedding trying to track down a dress she had fallen in love with, she almost screamed when she heard we had it in stock.

So she got in her car and crossed a few counties to come and try it on and she loved it.

Infact everyone she brought loved it and we know that her lovely new husband was thrilled when he saw her.

Here are some gorgeous pictures of our Rach, she was so much fun, and we will never forget her ever changing haircuts, ever changing hair colours and never changing mind on her dress!!

I just had to write a few lines, therapy really as I discovered today that my wonderful new manager Nicola is a secret Bridezilla.

She is not engaged but does have a rather dashing boyfriend who I feel would make a perfect groom at some stage. (They just look right together, know what I mean?)There are no imediate plans for them to get hitched (sorry Ian if you are reading this), so it is rather odd to give this lovely girl the title of Bridezilla but my goodness she has earned it!

It all happened the week before we opened and to set the scene, Nicola and I were opening the boxes with all the stock for the new Ellie Sanderson in Oxford. She became totally gushy and excited and squealed when she saw a certain ALAN HANNAH gown, I was thrilled because you have to love your collection and it was so understandeable as this particular gown is rather gorgeous. However, she quickly moved her affection to a stunning SASSI HOLFORD gown, but felt she needed more sparkle. Then she moved on to a SUZANNE NEVILLE gown in pure silk. At the bridal buyers exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery she was almost over come with excitement, this was caused because her favourite Sassi Holford gown was now available with sparkle. Are you feeling a trend here?

Today when I mentioned how happy I was with the shop and how fabulous it is to see the windows changed so often ( she is now doing this every four hours!!) She mentioned that she had tried on a few gowns. With a little bit more probing it turns out that she is trying on the entrire collection between consultations. Again, I encourage this, infact I have been known to do the same. It helps us explain the fit and feel of the gown to our clients.( my excuse).

So, my thoughts are simple. Isnt it great to LOVE your work and if you are seeking your gown and happen to read this, do come on in, Nicola is the most professional non engaged Bridezilla you will ever meet!!! I reckon by Next Thursday she will have had all the gowns on and know their linings intimately. You will be in great hands, that is if you can get an appointment in between Nicolas trying on sessions!

Mind you and thinking back I had this very same issue with Ruth and Laura, who called me in horror a few months back as a bride wanted to buy a Magpie Vintage Necklace, It was there favourite piece and neither of them wanted to sell it. My actions here were simple, I sat them down and reminded them that we are a SHOP, you know a place where we sell things to girls who are getting married. Not sure it worked but they let this lovely girl have the necklace anyway.

How lucky are we to have SASSI HOLFORD with us at this time of year. We love her, and she is coming to play in our new Oxford shop on the 12th June and wait for it ............she is bringing the brand new, not seen by the public 2011 collection.

We are lucky and you can also be lucky if you want to see the Sassi Holford collection but only if you call us asap. We only have a few appointments left.
